From Net Zero to Step Change

The 10th and 11th May 2022 saw the long-awaited return of The Water Equipment Show at The Telford International Centre. The show provided the perfect opportunity for the water industry to meet in person once again and see the latest innovations and developments from an array of leading exhibitors.

The primary technical focus of last year's show was 'The Drive to Net Zero – Opportunities for All.' Delegates benefited from the depth of knowledge available in the technical rooms. On the exhibition stands, we were able to discuss and share strategies for achieving net-zero carbon and much more.

The event aligned perfectly with Water UK's 'Net Zero 2030 Route Map,' which unveiled a groundbreaking plan to deliver a net-zero water supply for customers by 2030.

Discussing the theme, John explained, 'The technical theme of the Show was "The Drive to Net Zero – Opportunities for All," focusing on opportunities to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2030. It described how innovative and resilient solutions contribute to this goal and highlighted water company/supply chain partnerships that have already begun the journey. The event clearly shows how the Pump Centre and its members are ideally placed to influence and support the water industry in pursuit of its ambitious carbon targets, which clearly cannot be achieved in isolation.'

From the discussions, it is clear that companies were very interested in finding out how others were prioritizing net-zero innovation and learning more about the steps that have to be taken to unlock a net-zero carbon future.

The technical theme for this year's 2023 show is 'Delivering a Step Change in Efficiency.'

Operating efficiently is a prime objective for any business, whether it be a water company, manufacturer, or component or service supplier. The path to improving efficiency has been well-trodden by organizations for many years. In recent times, traditional drivers to improve efficiency, such as financial resources and legislative requirements, have expanded to include environmental considerations, particularly in terms of reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions.

The water industry regulator, Ofwat, has highlighted several key messages about the expenditure assessment for PR24, including the water companies' key requirement to deliver a step change in efficiency to allow the sector to do more.

There are many routes to delivering a step change in efficiency for any business, product, or service, and the WES2023 conference will focus on these, including how new technology, innovative solutions, and customer/supply chain partnerships have been successful.

The Pump Centre works with all parts of the water industry and its supply chain. Through events such as the Water Equipment Show, it is ideally placed to highlight how the whole industry can work more effectively together to better tackle these challenges.

Speaking on this year's theme, John Howarth said, 'This ambitious target cannot be delivered in isolation. WES 2023 will provide the perfect opportunity for companies to discuss the route they are taking to deliver improved efficiency and how their innovative solutions and customer/supply chain partnerships have been successful.'

The Water Equipment Show 2023 is a great event for everyone involved in the UK water industry. By attending, you will be able to network with key individuals, see and discuss the latest innovations and products, and learn a lot about 'delivering a step change in efficiency.' It could be a fantastic opportunity for you and your company.

The show opens at 8:30 am on Thursday, 11th May 2023. There is free access to all the technical areas for pre-registered delegates. There are more than 1,000 free parking spaces adjacent to the venue, and complimentary refreshments will be available to attendees subject to availability.

We are looking forward to a great day and meeting everyone on 11th May.
