Pump Centre member Grundfos are paving the way for the water and wastewater industry with their Open liS-tube impeller.
In recent years, water utilities have been experiencing difficulty when it comes to handling wastewater and the increasing number of clogging incidents. The composition of wastewater has changed dramatically due to the increased use of wet wipes and the separation of rain water/surface water and wastewater. In response to this looming crisis, Grundfos created the The Open S-tube impeller, a product that has proven to be an exceptional solution to this pain point after just two years on the market.
After being released in 2021 in pumps under 30 kW, the product was recently launched in the pumps up to 63 kW after Grundfos extended the SE/EL pumps family with the range 56 in early 2023.
Leo Anderson, Lead Product Manager at Grundfos, said:
“Without a single reported clogging incident to date, the Open S-tube pump ranges are as close to truly non-clogging as we could possibly get. Essentially, what we offer water utilities with Open S-tube pumps in general and the new SE/SL Range 56 specifically is the confidence that the wastewater pumps they install today are prepared to handle the evolving challenges of the future.”
As a result of their hard work and innovation, Grundfos won the Climate Impact Award at the 2023 Sustainability Awards in September. The Climate Impact Award is an accolade that honours companies who have ambitious goals and plans in its work on climate change. Grundfos were recognised for their solid results and plans for working towards net zero, as well as the partnerships they have nurtured to drive more climate-friendly production.
Mikael Geday, Chief Financial Officer and Group Executive Vice President at Grundfos, said:
“Making a positive impact on the world’s water and climate challenges is deeply rooted in our business. Thanks to strong collaborations across Grundfos, our Science-Based Targets were approved last year, and we have already in 2023 allocated DKK 150 million to support initiatives that will enable the realisation of our 2050 Net Zero target. We are immensely proud of the recognition it is to receive the Climate Impact Award.”
The Pump Centre is proud to support members like Grundfos, who are building relationships and designing innovative products to combat the damaging effects of climate change as we work towards net zero.
