In July 2020 the Pump Centre introduced a free webinar programme for its members. The majority of the presentations are based on mechanical & electrical equipment and assets used within the water industry. The webinars that have taken place are listed below and recordings of most of these are available for Pump Centre members to view. Please check the links below.

Webinar 15: How the water utilities can experience real benefit from Edge and edge based analytics
Presenter: David Bean - Solutions Manager,  Mitsubishi Electric
Date:  Thursday 4th February 2021 at 13:30hrs.
As utility asset real time data becomes increasingly accessible, Mitsubishi Electric will discuss the role of edge solutions, including analytics and AI deployed at the edge, as a method to aggregate that data and turn it into meaningful information. This can then be used to deliver value to the business through solutions including process optimisation and predictive/proscriptive maintenance. Finally comparing edge and cloud based technologies operating in this space and how they can be considered as complimentary in supporting a data driven business.

Webinar 16: The forgotten assets: Managing the risk and performance of small distributed wastewater pumping stations.
Presenter: Timothy Costello - Product Owner, Siemens
Date:  Thursday 18th February 2021 at 13:30hrs.
The thousands of <40kW distributed waste water pump assets around the UK are a significant contributor spillage risk, ongoing OPEX spend and are a draw on sparse CAPEX budgets.  The latest IoT and Edge technologies enable a level of monitoring and edge control that has not been possible in the past. Co-created with UK water companies is a solution that reduces blockages by 70%, is able to dynamically asses risk, and gives notification of issues with efficiency, utilisation, performance and faulty equipment (e.g. level sensors and non-return valves).  The presentation will set out the benefits and challenges of building and deploying such a solution and the potential for integration in to a system level view.

Webinar 17: Reduce carbon emissions in the waste water network (using Radar Sensors)
Presenter: Matt Westgate - Business Development Manager – Water, VEGA Controls Ltd
Date:  Thursday 25th February 2021 at 13:30hrs.

Pumping or lift stations in the waste water network are the largest consumers of power outside the treatment works themselves.  Optimising pump energy costs using special energy tariff selection is one thing, but to actually save on CO2 consumption (and costs) the key is in the level controls. If they don't work properly they can have you wasting energy and equipment on inefficient, unreliable control. Radar sensors are proving how adept they are at this: now priced at 'everyday' and 'every application' prices, they deliver more reliable, more accurate data that you can fine-tune your assets with. This seminar will show how, in real applications, it has changed the situation at a number of sites and demonstrated proven reliability.
